- Most of our current starry constellations play roles in Gilgamesh’s story, We show how the ancient myth can be read as a map of the stars.
- The zodiac, as we know it, emerged in these ancient times, and the movement of the skies over long periods of time — caused by what we now call “precession” — was mythologized as monsters being fought and slain.
- The myth shows how human's need to rule the world and subdue nature put pressure on rainfall and rivers, causing their demise. What happened there 5,000 years ago, seems to foreshadow what could happen now on a global scale.
